Meet the changemakers – Efecto Colectivo

Efecto Colectivo brings together civil society, government, academia and the private sector to develop and scale solutions that improve learning and the overall development of children and young people. Rather than supporting isolated initiatives, it helps organizations with expertise to work together, accelerating the adoption of effective educational innovations across Chile’s education system.

The initiative is led by Ana María Raad, Founder of Fundación Reimagina and an anthropologist with more than 20 years’ experience in education and social innovation. Under her leadership, Reimagina has become a leading education innovation organization in the region, with its AprendoLab initiative reaching the final of the WISE Prize for Education in 2025 and recognized as one of the 25 most impactful EdTech solutions globally by the Global Edtech Prize.

The changemaker series highlights the organizations, supported by BHP Foundation, that bring innovative solutions to complex social and environmental challenges. This time, we shine a light on Efecto Colectivo by Fundacion Reimagina.

Why this work is needed

Chile continues to face significant gaps in learning outcomes and overall students’ development, particularly in the public education system. At the same time, advances in AI and other emerging technologies are reshaping the skills young people need to thrive.

Many innovative educational solutions already exist, but they are often developed in isolation, with limited coordination and opportunities to scale. Therefore, valuable knowledge and experiences rarely reach the students and schools that need it most.

What Efecto Colectivo is changing

Through competitive open calls, Efecto Colectivo supports collaborative projects led by civil society organizations, while bringing government, academia and the private sector together to tackle shared education challenges.

Through policy briefs, knowledge dissemination and practical tools, the initiative helps decision-makers and practitioners adopt evidence-informed approaches and build lasting capabilities within Chile's education system.

In doing so, Efecto Colectivo enables effective innovations to be sustained, adapted and expanded over time, scaling solutions at a national level.

The progress so far

Since launching in 2023, Efecto Colectivo has selected (from over 130 proposals) 10 collaborative projects led by 28 civil society organizations through competitive open calls. As of June 2026, these innovations have reached 72,999 students, 3,342 teachers and 514 education leaders in almost 250 schools. Also, it has published 10 policy briefs on educational innovation and broad skills that are being used by public sector organizations.

The program has also developed three public goods targeting public education authorities and school leaders. They focus on school culture transformation, collaboration between civil society and the public education system, and socio-emotional learning across schools.

Looking ahead, Efecto Colectivo will keep deepening its work in local territories to improve learning outcomes, generating new evidence and expanding this model of systemic transformation with a global perspective.
