IdeoDigital enters a new stage to strengthen AI literacy in Chilean public schools

IdeoDigital enables the Chilean public school system to equip students with the skills required to progress in a digital world.

BHP Foundation and Fundación Kodea launched a new stage of IdeoDigital in Copiapó, in northern Chile, expanding a program that BHP Foundation has supported since 2021 to strengthen digital education and computer science learning in Chile’s public school system.

Building on an initial nationwide phase implemented across 14 regions of the country, the program will maintain its national reach while placing a stronger focus on northern Chile. Between 2026 and 2029, IdeoDigital aims to train 9,500 education professionals — including teachers, school leaders and education students — with the potential to reach more than 728,000 students nationwide.

This new stage reflects a renewed contribution from BHP Foundation and responds to the growing importance of artificial intelligence in education and society. The program will support school communities to integrate AI and digital skills into learning environments through teacher training, classroom support, practical learning experiences and collaboration with implementation partners across the country. The initiative is projected to run through 2031 and represents a total investment of US$13 million.

The launch event included the participation of Chile's Undersecretary of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Carolina Rossi, and highlighted the role of long-term collaboration in preparing young people for the future of work and citizenship in a digital world. Since its creation, IdeoDigital has worked with hundreds of schools and teachers across Chile, helping expand access to computer science education and digital skills as part of a broader effort to promote more equitable learning opportunities for children and young people.
